Description:
Emanuel Kirschner studied with Louis Lewandowski and Josef Rheinberger. He served as Oberkantor of the Great Synagogue in Munich and in 1893 became professor of vocal art at the Munich Academy of Music. Kirschner’s compositions were published in four volumes, T’hillos L‘el Elyon, between 1897 and 1926. Hochman’s arrangement has the tenors and basses singing the cantor’s beautiful melody (originally a solo) in unison, and then has the full choir repeat it in a homophonic setting. Hochman has also modernized the Hebrew pronunciation.
