description: This work was inspired by the enigmatic final verses from the Biblical love song. The composer has created contrasting musical moods for each of the two verses. The opening section’s dance-like rhythms are to be sung with rhythmic verve, ideally accompanied by a tof (middle-eastern hand-drum). The second section seems to evoke a nostalgic atmosphere—the singer is yearning for the return of her beloved. Here the music calls for a more expressive legato interpretation. The composer then recapitulates the opening dance.
translation: O you who tarry in the garden, a lover is listening; let me hear your voice. "Hurry, my beloved, swift as a gazelle or a young stag, to the hills of spices!"
